Last December, the Nike women’s race series announced that it was dropping its San Francisco half marathon, so this is not new news to the running world by any means. I’ve had nearly 7 months to get used to the idea, but that doesn’t mean I’m not still angry at Nike because I AM still angry and after running that race for 5 consecutive years in a row (plus Nike DC its inaugural year so 6 times total), I expected a little more explanation from Nike as to why they made that decision and took away my lucky #7 and what they were going to do to replace the race here in California, but noooooooo… no reasons, no future plans for a U.S. race, no more tuxedo-ed firemen, no more running for Tiffany’s… grrrrrr!!! <shakes fist in air>
In my 41 years of life I have learned that all things, especially the good things, do come to an end. I get that. Doesn’t make it any less annoying knowing that truth but I also realize the other side of the coin- be sure to enjoy while it lasts.
And when it comes to the Nike Women’s Marathon, I certainly did just that…
When I first started running in 2006 and learned of the Nike Women’s Marathon I thought, “WHAT A COOL RACE! But there is no way I will ever run a half marathon. 13 miles??? That’s crazy.” Little did I know then, that 5 years later I would run my first full marathon at Nike SF, then do the half in 2012, the inaugural Nike DC half earlier this year and this past Sunday, I ran Nike SF for the 3rd year in a row, completing my 16th half marathon to date. Wow!!!
Since I did my last race recap all in video, I’m going to do this recap mostly in photos as I took 74 pictures in total during the race- that’s close to 6 photos per mile, people, whoa! That’s a a PR in race-photography for me, definitely! (I’ve promised myself that I am leaving the camera behind for my next half though as I should probably stop taking so many freaking pictures and maybe possibly try to focus on the actual RUNNING here at some point… well… maybe.)
Just like the years before, NWM SF is always kicked off with a trip to Union Square for the expotique the Friday before the race where I grabbed my bib and took a few choice photos, of course!
Please email me at email@example.com to claim your entry and get further information regarding your registration.
Congratulations to you all and I will see you there!!!
And if you didn’t get into the race for 2013, never fear- I will be setting up a Group I.D. again for the 2014 Nike SF lottery so there is hope for you yet! Be sure to follow Running4theReason to stay in the loop!
Thank you again to Whole Foods for the opportunity, thanks to everyone for reading and participating, and most of all Happy Running to everyone!!!!
I woke up this morning with a tummy bug and am not feeling very well at ALL, ugh- yes, I skipped my long run, yes I am very upset about that but hopeful for tomorrow! As I was on my way to die a slow miserable death horizontally on the couch I checked my email and was happy to see that Whole Foods Market had reached out to me, offering a give away of FIVE(yes, 5- I keep re-reading the email and it still says 5!!!) slots to the sold out 10th anniversary running of the Nike Women’s Marathon in San Francisco this October 20th.
Please note that this give away is just for a ticket to register, NOT a paid entry to the race- winners will have to pay for their own entry, transportation, commemorative schwag, etc.
I know you know this will be my 4th Nike race and I know you know that I put together a group ID for the Nike lottery in June- and WE ALL (nearly 300!) GOT IN!!!!- so if you decided not to register for Nike SF via my group yet now wish you had, you still have a chance!!!! Continue reading →
This year is the 10th anniversary of the race and will be my 4th Nike run- I did the SF full in 2011, the SF half in 2012, ran Nike DC half earlier this year, and now am getting ramped and amped up for #4! I’m wrapping my head around training for all those hills and getting my plan together for a successful 13.1 come October 20th. Continue reading →
