I am- and have been for a very, very long time- a flip flop gal. Other than running shoes, I really can’t stand wearing socks and/or closed toed shoes! I counted all my flip flops for the sake of this post and have 13 pairs- 14 now with my Oofos recovery sandals. When the opportunity with BibRave came along to check out these sweet new flips, I jumped at the chance and must say my feet are so much happier for it! Oofos are powered by a proprietary foam, called OOfoam, that delivers recovery and cushioning benefits that rejuvenate your feet so they feel happy and free.
Having recovered from that stress fracture in the ball of my foot earlier this year and starting my running routine up again, the first thing I noticed when I tried on my Oofos was how much pressure they alleviated from that part of my foot. As you can see in the photo above, the sandals curve up at the forefoot and, as I learned during my injury, that type of structure is exactly what I need to give the ball of my foot a break. There are sneakers out there that accomplish this too, called “rockers”, but given my issue with closed toed shoes, Oofos sandals are truly the perfect cure for our hard working, tired feet- no socks required.
If you live here in the Bay Area, you are probably already familiar with Title Nine– a women’s athletic apparel and casual clothing store that makes and specializes in high quality sports bras, tops, bottoms, skirts, skorts, capris, and everything else in between. I’ve been a fan of Title Nine for a few years now and have always loved their swimwear but have never tried any of their workout clothing so when they invited me to attend a special “FitFest” event and get professionally fitted by a T9 Bravangelist for a brand new sports bra, I happily RSVPed!*
As every female athlete knows (or should know!), the most important foundation for any workout is a bra designed specifically for your unique body type, size and activity. The bra experts at Title Nine are making it easier and a lot more fun to find the perfect bra by hosting a series of “FitFest” events during the summer here in the Bay Area to help every athlete find her perfect bra for a more comfortable and healthier workout.

Tune Belt provides neoprene armbands and belts that carry and protect phones and devices of all sizes. As a runner, I always take a couple devices with me when I hit the road and as a blogger, I take even more- typically my phone, camera, and music player. I’ve had some challenges carrying all these items when running so when the good folks at Tune Belt contacted me and asked if I would try one of their armbands, review it, and give away one to a lucky reader, I happily complied!
Read on to find out how to enter for a chance to win one of these custom, super comfortable sport armbands from Tune Belt!
A few weeks prior to the SF Marathon, the good people of OrthoLite contacted me and offered to give me a pair of their Fusion Insoles to try out, review, and giveaway on my blog- I happily complied as I have never tried insoles before but have always wondered…
Since the race was right around the corner, I didn’t want to introduce anything new into training nor did I want to break the cardinal rule, “Nothing new on race day!” so when the race was over, I popped the insoles out of the box and into my running shoes the very next day and gave them a spin.
I completely wish I had broken that cardinal rule! Since getting back on the asphalt post-injury, the bottoms of my feet have been in excruciating pain, especially during any run longer than 6 miles so you can imagine how my feet felt on additional 7 miles to go! Since using the OrthoLite Fusion insoles, that problem is solved and has been replaced with ultimate comfort. Ahhhhh… (read on to find out how you can enter win your very own pair! 3 lucky winners will be chosen!!!)
As runners, we know compression wear is a “thing” and I’ve experimented running in compression capris as well as compression socks and found that I really prefer knee-high compression socks because the compression capris felt like I was stuffing a 20 pound sausage into a 10 pound casing. Freedom on the quads yet compression support on the calves, feet, and ankles really works for me on my longer distance runs. I can truly feel a difference in my recovery with a compression sock- my legs feel better quicker and aren’t as sore as they are without the socks- and when you’re marathon training, that’s a very good thing.
The benefits of donning compression while running are debatable, as this Active.com article explains, but wearing compression socks DOES increase circulation and blood flow, therefore reducing swelling and speeding up post-run recovery- basically, compression socks act as a portable ice bath for your hard working legs. (Plus, some runners claim compression socks improve endurance thereby making you faster and I need all the help I can get so, hey, why not?)
Following is a review of my 3 favorite brands of compression socks- PRO Compression, Zensah, and CEP Compression– plus, thanks to the kind folks at CEP, a giveaway for your very own pair of the EXACT SAME compression socksMeb Keflezighi wore when he won the Boston Marathon! Okay so I really just hunted Meb Keflezighi down in order to get that picture and it was really the kind people at Sony that sent me their Meb Keflezighi Series Walkman to try out but I like to think Meb had something to do with it as he is awesome and this Walkman has quickly become one of my favorite devices to go running with!
