2nd Auction for a Cure: Rules & Logistics

Thank you to these generous and philanthropic companies for the sweet product donations!

My online auction kicks off on Monday, March 20th at 9am PST, but I want to give everyone a heads up regarding the rules and logistics in advance so you can be ready to bid!  All proceeds from this auction go directly to my Team in Training efforts for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Every donation supports a great cause, helps to extend blood cancer research, and improves the lives of patients and their families.

On Monday, March 20th at 9am PST the auction will go live- to date, over $2300 worth of running and sporting goods have been donated! And, as you can see above, I’ve really got some FABULOUS support this time around! Continue reading

I am- and have been for a very, very long time- a flip flop gal. Other than running shoes, I really can’t stand wearing socks and/or closed toed shoes! I counted all my flip flops for the sake of this post and have 13 pairs- 14 now with my Oofos recovery sandals. When the opportunity with BibRave came along to check out these sweet new flips, I jumped at the chance and must say my feet are so much happier for it!  Oofos are powered by a proprietary foam, called OOfoam, that delivers recovery and cushioning benefits that rejuvenate your feet so they feel happy and free.

Having recovered from that stress fracture in the ball of my foot earlier this year and starting my running routine up again, the first thing I noticed when I tried on my Oofos was how much pressure they alleviated from that part of my foot. As you can see in the photo above, the sandals curve up at the forefoot and, as I learned during my injury, that type of structure is exactly what I need to give the ball of my foot a break. There are sneakers out there that accomplish this too, called “rockers”, but given my issue with closed toed shoes, Oofos sandals are truly the perfect cure for our hard working, tired feet- no socks required.

Run done, Oofos on!

When I started running in 2006, I wasn’t at all familiar with hydration-on-the-run nor did I know what an electrolyte even was! After a year of 5Ks and another year of 10Ks, I started ramping up to the half distance and the training programs I followed all stressed the importance of both hydration + electrolyte intake so I started experimenting; yet, in my newbie-ness still only carried water and avoided on-course electrolytes… until I started training for my first marathon.

I completed my first marathon through Team in Training and was lucky enough to learn from some of the best running coaches here in the San Francisco Bay Area- and they taught me about hydration, informed me about different products and how much water/electrolytes to take in during which hour of my run, and insisted that we carry electrolytes for any run over an hour.

As any veteran runner or coach will tell you, electrolytes (electrically-charged minerals such as sodium, calcium and potassium) are important to replace while running in order to keep the systems of the body functioning properly. As a Super Duper Sweater, I quickly learned that all the cramping I suffered plus all the salt I was covered in following a run meant that I was losing too much of those all-important minerals through sweat during my long runs and if I truly wanted to improve my running performance, I would certainly need to replace them along the way.

Recently, I became a BibRavePro Ambassador and the first product I was sent to try out and review was- you guessed it- Ultima Replenisher electrolyte powder.

The Gift of Fitness

No matter what controversial color your coffee cup may be, the holiday season has officially begun and just like every year prior, I am committed to getting all my holiday shopping done sooner than later; but for the first time ever, hubby and I have agreed to give gifts just to the kids and not to each other. Why?  Because we buy gifts for ourselves throughout the year anyway and only I truly know what I want! Saving stress, time, money, and wrapping paper- sounds like a Christmas miracle!

Hubby was also getting annoyed at my answer to the question, “What do you want for Christmas?”  The answer: “You know, workout stuff.” He’s over reading my mind and I’m over never getting the workout stuff that I actually want so this year I made my list, checked it twice, been really nice, and Santa Laura is getting/giving EXACTLY what I want this year all in the name of yuletide fitness! HO HO HO!!! Continue reading

Title Nine FitFest (and Giveaway!)

If you live here in the Bay Area, you are probably already familiar with Title Nine– a women’s athletic apparel and casual clothing store that makes and specializes in high quality sports bras, tops, bottoms, skirts, skorts, capris, and everything else in between.  I’ve been a fan of Title Nine for a few years now and have always loved their swimwear but have never tried any of their workout clothing so when they invited me to attend a special “FitFest” event and get professionally fitted by a T9 Bravangelist for a brand new sports bra, I happily RSVPed!*

As every female athlete knows (or should know!), the most important foundation for any workout is a bra designed specifically for your unique body type, size and activity. The bra experts at Title Nine are making it easier and a lot more fun to find the perfect bra by hosting a series of “FitFest” events during the summer here in the Bay Area to help every athlete find her perfect bra for a more comfortable and healthier workout.

Tune Belt Review and Giveaway

Tune Belt provides neoprene armbands and belts that carry and protect phones and devices of all sizes. As a runner, I always take a couple devices with me when I hit the road and as a blogger, I take even more- typically my phone, camera, and music player. I’ve had some challenges carrying all these items when running so when the good folks at Tune Belt contacted me and asked if I would try one of their armbands, review it, and give away one to a lucky reader, I happily complied!

Read on to find out how to enter for a chance to win one of these custom, super comfortable sport armbands from Tune Belt!

Review and Giveaway: OrthoLite Fusion Insoles

Ortholite

A few weeks prior to the SF Marathon, the good people of OrthoLite contacted me and offered to give me a pair of their Fusion Insoles to try out, review, and giveaway on my blog- I happily complied as I have never tried insoles before but have always wondered…

Since the race was right around the corner, I didn’t want to introduce anything new into training nor did I want to break the cardinal rule, “Nothing new on race day!”  so when the race was over, I popped the insoles out of the box and into my running shoes the very next day and gave them a spin.

I completely wish I had broken that cardinal rule! Since getting back on the asphalt post-injury, the bottoms of my feet have been in excruciating pain, especially during any run longer than 6 miles so you can imagine how my feet felt on additional 7 miles to go! Since using the OrthoLite Fusion insoles, that problem is solved and has been replaced with ultimate comfort. Ahhhhh…  (read on to find out how you can enter win your very own pair! 3 lucky winners will be chosen!!!)

Happy Feet!
