Happy 1st Blogiversary!

Yes, I did actually stick a candle in a Luna Bar… I’m classy like that.

It was exactly one year ago today that I decided I wanted to start a blog and wrote my first blog post ever, embarking on this journey to chronicle my thoughts in and around this hobby of mine- running.  Wow.  I can’t believe it’s already been one whole year!

A lot has happened these past 12 months.  When I initially started Running 4 The Reason, I was in a really weird place in my life- I was just coming off an injury and returning to running, a lot of my personal relationships were being tested, and I knew I needed to start something new, something just for me, something bigger than myself, something that I could sit back and be proud of…. so, I joined Team in Training, decided to run my first marathon, started this blog, and I am so glad I did!

Just do what the hoodie says and no one gets hurt.

I’ve learned so much about myself, running, and blogging in the past year and am happy to report that I am in SUCH a better place now than I was a year ago.  A lot of that has to do with my constant work to improve myself, my mind, and my relationships but it also has to do with this little blog… I’m very proud of my work on these pages and now because of this creation, on a regular basis, I tap the 3 outlets I’ve realized I require in my life: to be 1) creative, 2) active, and 3) authentic.

When it comes to the blogging itself, I have come to realize that not every post is going to be perfect even though that is always my goal.  In the beginning, I would stress out that this post wasn’t funny enough or that post wasn’t insightful and all that worry led me to write less.  As soon as I let the stress of perfection fall away, I started writing more and more, and typically that’s a good thing!  (I hope you agree!)

I’ve also learned that people read but don’t click. Ever. In the beginning, I would get just a few hits a day and now that I get hundreds, still, no one really clicks anything.  What’s that all about?  Hmmmmm…

I’m a whore for the hardware.

In terms of running, I have also grown leaps and bounds due to my TNT support system- Coach Al, Mama Lisa, Coach Kim, Coach Rudy, Kerri, Tim, Kate, Anya, Sammie, Marta, Ashley, Emily, Jenette, Marty, Anabelle, Liz, Jaz, Blake, and Patty just to name a few.  It is also my 1st runniverary with them, exactly one year ago I met these amazing human beings and just by virtue of being themselves, they taught me how to start caring about my own hopes and dreams and that I, just little ol’ me, can truly make a difference.

With their support, I pushed myself farther than I ever have before, and they helped get me to my first marathon- for that, I will always be grateful.

Team in Training taught me just how amazing people can really be.  They also taught me that what I do every day really and truly matters.  Life is way too short to spend time with people who suck the happiness out of you.  I have a much deeper appreciation for my life because of this time with Team in Training and every day, wake up thankful for my health, my family, and my friends… and, of course, my blog.

I know, I know, you’ve NEVER seen this picture before…

Steve Jobs (rest in peace) once said, “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.  Don’t be trapped by dogma, which is living with the results of other people’s thinking.  Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice, heart and intuition.  They somehow already know what you truly want to become.  Everything else is secondary.”

Amen, Steve.  A year ago, I wanted to become a better person, I wanted to become a blogger, I wanted to become a marathoner…

So I did.

And if you have the desire, you can too.

Now please, raise your glasses or computers or running shoes and cheers with me- in the next year, let’s promise to keep taking care of our minds, bodies, and health, while surrounding ourselves with respect, honesty, and positivity.

Cheers!

Here’s to the very first year of Running 4 the Reason and many, many, more!!!
